Description (Service) Oversees the administration of the Firearms Act * the Act requires all firearm owners to hold a valid firearms licence and restricted and prohibited firearms to be registered * licence applicants must meet safety-training requirements and pass security screening to ensure they do not pose a safety threat to themselves or others 
 
Provides direct operational and technical firearms-related support to law enforcement across Canada * supports front line police agencies in gathering evidence, as well as investigating and prosecuting persons or organizations involved in the illegal movement and criminal use of firearms

In order to apply for a Minor's Firearms Licence, the applicant must be at least 12 years old * in order to apply for a Possession and Acquisition Licence, the applicant must be at least 18 years old
