| Description (Service) | Annual cancer research fundraiser where people raise pledges for donating hair or shaving their heads * complimentary wash, cut and style, or shave during the event * hair is cut or shaved by volunteer hairstylists from local salons * teaching staff and students from Algonquin College's Hair Stylist Program help with the shampooing * main event is held at Algonquin College Proceeds go towards: * cancer research at The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute * two annual $500 Bursaries to financially challenged Algonquin College Hair Stylist Program students * suitable hair donations go towards the manufacture and fitting of approximately ten free human hair and/or synthetic hair wigs a year for financially challenged local children; in partnership with Caralyn's Hair & Wig Design, Ottawa. * hair unsuitable for wig-making process is sent to Green Circle Salons for hair recycling projects which includes Hair Booms for oil spills on the world’s beaches, lakes and oceans * manufacture and supply of a free trendy head scarf for every CHEO patient requiring one |

| Eligibility | Hair donation: minimum six inches of hair (no minimum length if the head is shaved) during the fundraiser * minimum donation of 12 inches of hair outside the fundraising event, or six inches if accompanied by a fundraising campaign * treated and grey hair acceptable * hair previously cut is accepted if it has been stored in a ponytail or a braid Providing children 18 years and under with hair loss due to cancer treatments, alopecia, burns, etc with a free wig * family must not have medical insurance Bursary: Hair Stylist Program students at Algonquin College in need of financial assistance |
